"No elephants (or wooly mammoths) were harmed during the creation of this sound effect.."
For the first time since I was seven years old (SaMbO begins to count backwards from 34.. on his fingers..) I found myself in total empathy with Da Bird. That'd be da Big yellow Bird.
Frustration nearing snuffleupagian proportions as what was in my head refused to appear in reality. I could hear it - hell I could even SEE it I swear, but as soon as I recorded it - it ceased to exist as it did in my imagination.
Perhaps there were too many adults around at the time. :D
However, much like Aloysius Snuffleupagus himself, persistence pays off and ultimately someone else catches a glimpse of one's imagination. In this case, the Tie SFX finally decided that hiding in the shadows of my mind was incredibly boring, and decided to make itself known to the world.
59 attempts later you will be able to judge for yourselves whether or not I came close, upon the release of the next patch. (Send any complaints to Oscar The Grouch...)
So - what next?
For a start, the player jump SFX are being boosted in amplitude thanks to betatest feedback, as have the various sniper-hud effects. Additionally, a new sniperbolt fire and recharge effect has been created to accommodate recent weapon changes.
MadNad has presented me with a shoppinglist of SFX required for his latest map - and above all I notice that 'Xwing Flyby' is in there.
Oh joy. :|
Not only that, but he comments beside it: "as good as the tie.."
Sure - I can do that. I mean, after the Tie, ANYTHING's got to be a doddle, right?
How hard can it be? I know the sound - I can hear the sound in my head.. hell I can even SEE it I swear... (uh-oh)
*pause*
So upon reflection, perhaps I am more like Big Bird than I originally thought:
After stumbling upon the alphabet, which is written out, he mistakes it for a very long word. (Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz)
With marching band-like accompaniment, he breaks into song, pronouncing the word as "(ab-cud-ef-gï)(jek'l-m'nâp-kwûr)(stööv-wik-ziz)."
His brilliance as a bird, he thinks, will become known to all the world if he can ascertain the word's meaning.
My brilliance as a SFX artist, I think, will become known to all the world if I can pull off one of the other most recognisable sounds of our era.
Well, at least Snuffy will tell me I'm brilliant - right?
as the rules have now been explained to me by Exor...
I, Bigshot_TIO, hereby retract the comments made at 16th Aug 2003 00:40 and 16th Aug 2003 00:48 and officially make these statements...
Yoshi, shut yer pie hole and enjoy that you can hear the new sounds. I may not be in BETA(but I want to be)but I am fairly certain that it sounds MUCH better than dieing elephants. and the intro music rocks Sambo, I like the techno sound of it.
how long did it take you to make the taunts and voice commands? I love how the imps sound very metalic and the Rebs sound like they are shouting at each other.
I also love the sound consistency in the factions throughout the mod, where the imperials obviously have electronic guided machines and the rebels have to rely on mechanics for the most part.
oh and I also like shapes and choclate biscuits. kiwis and waffles and halo and chaosut2 kick ass
shut it!

If the TIEs sound as good as you say, then you are the best. And if you can manage this, you can make every sound you want
