Troopers switches to Unreal Tournament 2004 - Yoshiro - 29th Mar 2004
Although most fans are already aware of our plans to port Troopers to Unreal Tournament 2004, some of you might have slipped through my fingers as I tightened my grasp.
Well here is the official word from the front lines of Hoth: Kinetic Studios has decided to cease all further development on Unreal Tournament 2003 and switch to Unreal Tournament 2004. We have already ported our current beta code over and are continuing the development process at a brisk pace.
Some things you can expect to see are new player characters, new weapons such as the DLT20A and the infamous Scout Pistol, new locations such as Hoth and Mos Eisley as well as revisits to old ones; Yavin has never looked better. Along with these new things you will see updated weapon code for every weapon, as well as sprinting and leaning. In our objective game type you will experience our new class system which currently features Scouts, Troopers, Medics and Engineers - each with their own load outs.
I would also like to use this opportunity to welcome our two new animators to the team: Adrian Lopresto and Sergio "Texanimator" Gonzalez will be working together to bring our new models to life. And before I forget, we have two new Mappers as well. Keith "Swag" Balding and Jason "Wolfen" Spencer are the names they gave to the Imperial Name Registration Office. Swag's been getting a heavy tan under those Tatooine Suns. Wolfen, a member of the 501st Imperial Legion has been cracking down on the rebel activity around here, so I'll have to try and slip out more secret plans later. Expect me to try and slip my contacts at those rebel news sites model and map pictures unless I'm captured first.
Finally, I would like to congratulate the entire Troopers team as well as the teams of Red Orchestra and Air Buccaneers for being chosen to have their mods shown off by Epic at this year's Game Developer Conference in San Jose, California. Congratulations guys!
And now for some media for everybody! I have collected a nice group of pictures to show the community. Here you will find weapons, classes, the ingame map and more. As another special treat we have two quick movies for you. From TexAnimator we have an example of his Storm Trooper animations. These come in the form of a short 1,3 MB .avi file. Click on the image below to download, or click here for an alternative mirror.
.
There's also a movie from eXoR, showing off the latest new leaning feature. Note that this movie was captured when testing on an Unreal Tournament 2004 map; those who have played the game will recognise it as DM-DesertIsle. This is not a Troopers map. You can have a look for yourself in this 4,2 MB .wmv movie, which is also mirrored here.
That marks the end of this post. Expect to see more regular updates in the future. Don't forget to drop by our irc channel at #ut2003troopers on irc.gamesurge.net and to visit our forums, be it just to say hi or to ask questions. Until next time!

Several key members of the dev team are maya freaks and refuse to look at max :D
pole vector!!!
Canucklehead - - 13th Apr 2004 05:30
ahem!!! watch that pole vector on the left knee ;) hehe j/k. im goin to school for maya right now. total maya specific program. I love it. anyways a small critique of that stormy animation. I think far too much slow out is being used on the way back up from that hop. Snappier animations will give it more life. Much like that final pose of him grabbing his head. that looks good, it reads well and snaps. it has emotion and feeling,, unlike the hop. WIP i know, just never been able to share anything ive learned cause everything gaming seems to be 3dsmax based...
i had no clue at all maya was used for ut stuff. perhaps my hopes and dreams of being a modder arent completely dead. Maya owns joo!!!!
obsessed with tiefighter/wing commander games - - 12th Apr 2004 03:15
My problem with mothership is that the space fighting doesn't last. Hopefully in an upcoming release you can have a just-space level for constant dogfighting goodness...Team DM with X-wings vs ties...
7.2
Yoshiro - - 11th Apr 2004 06:08
Version 7.2 is actually the internal release name. The release is titled 2.1 and can be found at most major file locations such as lucasfiles, fileshack, fileplanet and more

Space flight
Yoshiro - - 08th Apr 2004 18:25
Its mouse controled and handels very much like a cobat sim. You can also use a joystick if you configure it properly. The only current level that employee's them is the Death Star which is also a ground combat map after you gain entrance to a hanger

SWEET! Will there be a just dogfighting mod/level for multiplayer? Will it be mousebased like freelancer? Joystick support? Ahh that X-wing movie makes me drool.
Xwings and Ties
Yoshiro - - 07th Apr 2004 20:54
We have our own vehicle system for our xwings and ties and prefer it over Epics space fighter vehicles
KriMar - - 07th Apr 2004 02:01
hope the release is soon, and i hope that those at-at's will be driveble in the future. Greetz KriMar
Dogfights

PLEASE, please PLEASE use the mothership type engine for X-Wing Tie Fighter shenanigans and your mod will realize the potential that those old X-Wing/Wing Commander games only promised! God I wish I could do it myself if there wasn't the small matter of me not having the time, skill or know-how. Either way looking great- can't wait for this one!
Can't Wait!

I'm a big star wars fan but I did not have UT2003. Well, my copy of UT2004 is on its way and here is the first place I visit. Can't wait to join the fun!
Congrats!
[GCDev] SZier - - 02nd Apr 2004 11:59
Congrats and good luck on the move over to UT2004, it's a very nice engine. I know the whole Galactic Conquest team can't wait to give the new build a go. :-)

At this time there is no feasable way to add clone wars content in game in time. We still have alot to add for the current era of gameplay. After next release if there is a demand for it, I'm sure the team will discuss it.
atleast...
xeno - - 01st Apr 2004 15:56

killerdan - - 01st Apr 2004 15:56

Clone Wars Republic Era
Yoshiro - - 01st Apr 2004 15:52
Currently there is nothing in troopers relating to the clone wars or the republic era. This of course could change later, but I doubt we will want to compete with Star Wars Rebel Commando - a clone wars era based game on the unreal engine by Lucas Arts
